  Task  Description—

In this portfolio, there is a total overview about all what I managed to do during Teaching Practice concerning three days presentation while dealing with the tasks during such period. Along the three days, I managed to provide students with reading a story and STEAM). On choosing the right story, I managed to speak with my MST about the story that is connected with the theme of the month (My Country). In this assignment there is a portfolio including various areas such as storybook, curriculum standards, STEAM activity description and a reflection about the steam Activity.

—This book

has more valuable simple information about concerning the seven Emirates through which the child learns more about the Emirates including the most famous places found in each Emirate. Besides, other information about the

UAE costume the UAE flag, currency, the camel and its importance for that environment that is a desert land and the camel is the main method of transporting goods and even people in the past and till now it has a great value where it is called “ The ship of the desert”. The book was written in Lama Bihsoon. The book is greatly appropriate for pre-school children because all the information provided in the book includes simple sentences where each sentence includes at most three words and even all the sentences are explained through pictures. Moreover, the pictures are big where that attracts children’s attention and manage them to see everything clear and enables children to have the picture in mind. Curriculum Standards

I connected this book with the STEAM Activity in various subjects such as Math, Science, technology, art and engineering.

I read the story to children and before that I showed children the emerging reading where I showed them how they catch the book and even showed them the title of the book and the author’s name and illustrator and also the type of the book that is the genre.

—Explain

— I asked children to bring different types of paper, which they find in th environment to create something connected with their environment and of the things they, use at home. Such as Tissue box, bottles cover,

aluminum boxes, plastics and other cartoons, etc.

I created a game for the students called UAE board game. In it, I placed natural resources that students gathered and brought from their homes. I then divided the board into sections where I put in each envelope Emirati currency and then put a box including money inside and I called it bank. The students throw the dice and then check the number of dots gained if the child got two dots, then he moves to the second picture and then gets the picture and get it out and then says the name of the Emirate that included in the story.  Next, gets the money out and buy the natural resources.  Then to place the resources in the trolley and the money into the bank.

STEAM ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

First of all I told them a story and connected it with the activity and the story that I started with them at first,” I am Emirati “ Then I prepared the tools, and the mud and then started telling the story and the problem and told them, if they remember Rashid and Tom where I told them that Rashed took a tour in the seven Emirates and even Tom liked the seven Emirates and then Rashed invited Tom to go to the farm with him. On their way to the farm, they faced a problem and then I showed the children the mud. I told the children the space and the issue where I told them that they both wanted to cross the mud and they couldn’t. Then I asked the children how that could be done and left them to discuss with each other. Before that I showed them all the resources that they can use for solving the problem.

STEAM is widely important for children that’s because children use five things in one. This sort of story developed children’s abilities to find solutions for problem and to think through brainstorming. That exactly agrees with the preoperational stage of development of Piaget where this stage discusses the value of   children’s development. Here the stage in the preoperational development is egocentrism where in this stage Piaget used a number of creative and good techniques to study children’s mental abilities. Egocentrism here includes having three-dimensional display of a scene  that is totally shown in having in this concern, children are requested to choose a picture  that explain the scene they heard and here that is connected with  story where they were asked  to think of a solution for the problem faced. Here children according to Piaget used their imagination to find solution and that is connected with mental abilities and participated and cooperated with each other to find a solution.  "Three Mountain Task," children are asked to choose a picture that showed the scene they had observed. Mentally, they thought and found a solution that agrees with the problem. For example, they suggested to carry out a bridge. Concerning the role play, I provided them with the idea first and informed them to pretend as if they are UAE engineers and I let them to think upon that issue. I asked them some motivational questions including, how we can help Tom and Rashed to cross this mud with the camels? What is the solution for this issue? How can we solve this problem?

Doing these activity-managed children to form social interaction with each other through In fact play, thinking and even that enabled them to join together to think of how to achieve the goal to find a solution. That as also shown in sharing ideas and they learned from each other.

   Reflection

Generally, I liked the steam activity and the evidence on that I managed to carry out more than one steam activity. I see that STEAM activity is important for managing students to develop their knowledge and even it is more effective and helps in making a link for more than one subject. For me as a teacher in the future my goal is not only to teach students ADEC Curriculum but my goal is to make them more creative and productive and developed. Totally to be ready for the next stage. However, the difficulties were only few where the only difficulty that was I prepared everything alone without any help from others. Another issue that was after I prepared the place in the library, where I prepared a corner in the library for activating the theme about my country to the whole school to use   when I finished the Arabic teacher took all the place with its pictures to herself. Then, she insisted on taking all the materials to herself and that made me so angry. If I did that again I will not allow to any teacher to affected place and the materials and even to show the Headmistress all my preparation and what I did.

The questions used in the activity

—How can we help Rashed, Tom, and the camel to cross the mud?

—Why do we use the stick?

—what the purpose of using the strings?

—Why did you put these roll behind the tissue box?

—What will you make to help them cross the mud?
